The emperor is coming! You and your fellow gardeners had best get to work making his bamboo garden as lovely
as possible in honor of his arrival. Of course, it doesn’t help that the emperor’s new pet happens to be a bamboo-loving panda…
In Takenoko, 2-4 players each try to make their own sections of the bamboo garden as beautiful as possible. Each player has secret objectives that they must meet, such as specific arrangements of bamboo, tile placements, and feeding the panda the right combinations of bamboo. They’ll take turns putting out tiles, placing irrigation canals, and manipulating the panda and gardener to change the way the bamboo grows. The person with the most points on their completed objectives at the end wins!
Takenoko is a gorgeous game from Antoine Bauza – creator of 7 Wonders, Hanabi, and Ghost Stories. It features adorable miniatures for the gardener and panda, and beautiful colored and sculpted wood for the bamboo pieces. It’s a delightful, breezy game for people of all ages and skill levels. In the vein of Settlers of Catan and Ticket to Ride, Takenoko is a great gateway game to break your friends and family into board games.
