1. Super Metroid | The Top 10 SNES Games

Super MetroidAhh… Super Metroid. Topping many lists as the greatest game of all time, it’s no surprise that it would be my favorite game for the SNES. This game does so many things right. It has great music, awesome controls, a story told solely through gameplay, a clever tutorial that teaches you the controls without a single word, and plenty of glitches and Easter eggs that only enhance the gameplay experience rather than detract from it. This game lets you do the steering and doesn’t bother you with needless popups, invisible walls, or useless sidekicks. The game intuitively and subtly teaches you everything you need to know as you explore the underbelly of Planet Zebes while trying to collect power-ups so you can win your final confrontation with Mother Brain. It never holds your hand and by the end you feel so powerful you could blow a hole in the side of the planet with all of the missiles, bombs, and beam times you have. If you haven’t played any of the games in this list you have got to play this one. For people that have already played this game, do a little research. There are so many useful tricks and glitches that you can basically play the game however you want. Want to kill Ridley first? Go for it. Want to beat the game without half the power-ups? You got it dude. There’s always something new to find.

In Conclusion

I hope you enjoyed my trip down memory lane. Some of these games deserve spots on this list only because of the effect they had on my childhood, but all of them are great games. If you have a SNES lying around, I suggest you pick up one of these classics and give them a try. They will not disappoint.
